Police authorities in Rivers State have officially declared Gabriel โGeneralโ Asabuja, a former Niger Delta militant leader, wanted following his provocative statements in a viral video amidst the ongoing local government council crisis.
This announcement was made by the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, during an appearance on Channels Televisionโs Politics Today.
Commissioner Disu condemned Asabujaโs actions, emphasizing the panic and concern generated by his threats in the state and beyond.
He assured the public that law enforcement has initiated actions to apprehend Asabuja, stressing the seriousness with which such threats are being handled.
The crisis in Rivers State stems from disputes between Governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, escalating recently over the leadership of local government councils.
Governor Fubaraโs decision to install a caretaker committee after the expiration of council officialsโ tenures sparked protests and opposition from Wikeโs supporters.
In response, the police have issued warnings against any form of violence, affirming their readiness to maintain peace and apprehend individuals inciting unrest.
Commissioner Disu reiterated that Asabujaโs defiance in response to police invitations will not deter efforts to bring him to justice.
