The Senate has officially confirmed Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN) as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following a thorough screening at Thursday’s plenary.
Prof. Amupitan, a distinguished Professor of Law and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, succeeds Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who successfully led the electoral body for a decade.
Hailing from Kogi State in the North Central region, Prof. Amupitan currently serves as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at the University of Jos.
In his remarks before the Senate, the newly confirmed INEC boss pledged to leverage modern technology, including drones, and collaborate with key agencies such as the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to enhance the credibility and efficiency of Nigeria’s electoral process.
