Senate Removes Natasha From UN Women Event, Replaces Her With Male Senator

The Nigerian Senate has removed Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the country’s delegation to the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) in New York, replacing her with male Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire.

The event, which began on 9 March and will end on 19 March at the United Nations headquarters, focuses on improving access to justice for women and girls and accelerating gender equality.

Senator Natasha had been invited by the Ministry of Women Affairs and submitted her passport details promptly. She was initially assured inclusion by Senate Committee on Women Affairs Chairperson Ireti Kingibe after two other female senators declined to attend.

Despite this, she was excluded from the final list, with only Kingibe and Senator Adegbonmire officially registered.
