Shun Social Vices- PCRC, POWA, Sensitize Secondary Schools Graduates From Etche LGA

The Police Community Relations Committee(PCRC) and Police Officers Wives Association(POWA),Rivers State Command on Thursday 25th,July,2024 sensitized and educated about thirty -six graduands from different secondary schools in Umuebule in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers state on consequences of social vices such as wrong use of social media,internet fraud,theft,thuggery,violence,exam malpractice, etc.

The guest speaker and Chairman of Police Wives Association of Nigeria(POWA),Rivers State Command Mrs Olufunmilola Disu who is also the wife of Rivers State Commissioner of Police,educated the graduands on benefits and negative impacts of social media.

Mrs Disu told the graduands that the kind of things they post online can suggest to other people the kind of persons they are.

“You must think before you post anything.Social media never forgets.You see people digging up what some of our leaders posted in past.

“We need to balance our online and offline activities.Now that you are going to University,nobody will tell you to read your book.You can go on social media to read,get materials that will enhance learning not gossiping and doing unethical things.As you are going into the larger world, you should know the difference between good and evil.

“I will like to enjoin you to be good ambassadors of your family,community and schools” she said.

 

In an interview with Journalists,the PCRC Chairman in Rivers state,Voke Emore said “today we educated graduands from group of schools in Umuebule a rural area in Rivers state.They are graduating from secondary to university.

“The talk is to help them to focus on what they need to achieve .They were also told about challenges they will face while in the University.They need to be guided before they get to university because it is a different environment.We also sensitized them to abstain from criminal activities as well the consequences of social vices.

“36 students were engaged for this year while last time we engaged twenty students.

“We talked to them on how to better themselves especially when social vices like illicit drugs, cultism,political thuggery is prevalent. So we need to make them know the consequences.The talk is open to any school that want us to educate their graduands.

“We are also going to take the sensitization to our area commands and divisions.We hope it continues”.

The PCRC Chairman urged the graduands to develop the mentality of “I can do it’.He urged them to always have a positive mind set to achieve set goals and learn skills.

Mr Emore adviced the graduands to be ICT literate because is a marketable field while urging them to shun bad association that may lead them to evil.

On his part, Engr.Eric Eregare a member of PCRC,Rivers Command said ” perseverance is a key factor in life and business.Believe in yourself.Dont associated with cultism,drug abuse”.
