Information reaching our News desk has it that about 11am this morning some suspected cultists led by one Zubi shot the mother of a Councilor in Porthacourt LGA at Egede street Mile 2 Diobu
The mother of a former Councilor in Porthacourt Local Government Councillor, Mr Endurance was shot by suspected cultists on Monday morning at Egede street, Mile 2 Diobu Porthacourt over the refusal of the ex-councillor to pay “election security money’ to cultists.
Eyewitness account say the suspected cultists led one Zubi met the ex-councillor in the front of his house at Egede street demanding that the former Councillor pays them (suspected cultists) “election security money”.
We learned that the ex-councillor insisted that he has no money to give to them (suspected cultists).The speech of the ex-councillor was said to have infuriated the hoodlums who started throwing bottles into his compound.
The source further disclosed that Mr Endurance ran into into his house and the suspected cultists opened fire on him.The former councillor narrowly escaped the bullet which caught his mother.
Another eyewitness said the hoodlums escaped after the shooting incident .The Azikiwe Police Division in charged of the area and other Police units has visited the scene as at press time while the woman was rushed to the hospital.
The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police command, SP Grace Iringe Koko confirmed the incident. She said the woman is receiving treatment in undisclosed hospital while efforts are on to arrest the perpetrators.
