Tension In Rivers As Police Takes Over 4 LGA Council Secretariat, Youths Locks-Up 3 Other LGAs, Asking The Chairmen To Quit

Reports from the scene at the Local Government Headquarters in Rivers state shows that Police vans have taken over the entrance gates of Port Harcourt City LGA at Bank road in Port, Followed by The Obio akpor LGA gate at Rumuodomaya, Ogu/Bolo LGA and Ahoada East Local government areas.

Our correspondent who was monitoring the development says the police could have acted to protect Lives and properties following the takeover of Degema Local Government Area secretariat by some youths in the area on Monday morning who were seen in viral video locking up the council headquarters

Recall that June 17th 2024 is the day the tenure of the current Local government Chairmen in Rivers state is expected to elapse having been voted into office in 2021.there is a huge security presence in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area and Obio/Akpor LG to prevent security breaches as at 12.11pm this afternoon.

Reports reaching us has it that Asari Toru, Akuku Toru and Degema Council gates were also locked by the youths, asking the former LGA chairmen to quit!!

Following the expiration of the tenure of the local government chairmen in Rivers State, the police have proactively taken over the Obio/akpor LGA, Ogo/Bolo and Ahoada East LGA

Constitutionally the tenure of all the local government chairmen in the State ended today,

Many notable Elders in the state have been calling on youths state not to portray any act capable of creating crisis in any LGA so that the enemies of progress and blood suckers won’t use the avenue to kill youths in the State.
