President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to return to Abuja on Tuesday, cutting short his scheduled vacation in Europe as political attention shifts to Rivers State ahead of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s reinstatement.
The development was confirmed on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who disclosed that Tinubu had decided to end his holiday earlier than planned.
Tinubu departed Nigeria on September 4 for France, where he began his annual vacation and was expected to continue the rest of the break in the United Kingdom.
However, his sudden decision to return comes just a day before the September 18 deadline for the reinstatement of the suspended Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara. During his stay in Paris, the president also engaged in high-level diplomatic activities, including a private luncheon with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace. According to Onanuga, both leaders discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation across critical sectors and reaffirmed commitments to boosting prosperity and global stability.
Tinubu’s early return is already being linked to the unfolding political situation in Rivers State, where Fubara’s reinstatement is expected to reshape the state’s political climate and possibly influence broader national alignments.
