Tragedy struck the peaceful town of Ebukuma on Tuesday 15th February 2025 when five children who were said to be searching for seafood drowned in the river in Ebukuma town, Andoni LGA, of Rivers State.
Speaking to newsmen via telephone, a community leader, Identified as Mr. Frank Eneawaji-Ogbononu said an eye witness reported seeing the children, two boys and three girls who went in search of seafood drowned in the river, at about 3pm.
He described the incident as unfortunate and pray that God will grant the little soul of the children eternal rest.
He said two bodies have been recovered, while rescue effort by community people are ongoing to recover the missing three bodies, it was a sad Tuesday in Ebukuna community he said’
Meanwhile The rivers state police command is yet to react to the incident
