Charlie Kirk, the CEO and co-founder of the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA and a close ally of former U.S. President Donald Trump, was shot and killed Wednesday during an event at a Utah college in what authorities are calling a suspected act of “political assassination.”
A report by AP, said Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed the development, describing the incident as a devastating moment for the state.
This is a dark day for our state,” Cox said, adding that a “person of interest” was in custody Wednesday evening, though no charges had yet been announced.
We are actively looking for anyone and everyone who has any information related to the shooting,” he stated.
The attack occurred at Utah Valley University, where witnesses reported panic as shots rang out. People were seen rushing out of a building after Kirk was struck while addressing the audience.

Authorities revealed that the shooter wore dark clothing and fired from a rooftop on campus, some distance away.
Former President Donald Trump announced Kirk’s death on his Truth Social account, praising the 31-year-old activist as a passionate voice for America’s youth.
“No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie,” Trump posted, hailing him as “Great, and even Legendary.”
However, Orem Mayor David Young clarified that the suspected shooter had not yet been arrested. A person earlier taken into custody at the university was not the gunman, according to a source familiar with the investigation who was not authorized to speak publicly.
Disturbing videos shared on social media show Kirk speaking into a handheld microphone beneath a white tent emblazoned with the slogans “The American Comeback” and “Prove Me Wrong.” A single shot is heard, after which Kirk clutches his neck as blood gushes from the left side. Shocked spectators gasp and scream before the crowd scatters in panic.
