Video: Rivers State Police Command Begins Digital Policing As NDDC Donates Communication Gadgets To Fight Crime

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC), Chief Samuel Ogbuku on Wednesday 18th December 2024 donated communication gadgets such as radio transmitters, walkie takie, mast, etc to the Rivers State Police Command.

Handing the equipment at the Police headquarters, Moscow road PortHarcourt the NDDC boss Chief Ogbuku disclosed that the donation demonstrated existing partnership between the commission and security in Niger Delta.

He said ” As interventionist agency will must support the security agency to ensure peace. When it comes to end of the year, there is increase in crime because of activities of criminal elements who want to meet up.
“Since September this year, we have not had violent crimes. We thank you for your sacrifice. When we are sleeping you are out there keeping watch.This equipment is to enhance your performance in policing Rivers state.

“We intend to replicate it in the other states command to ensure they are linked.We will also consider donating save city centre equiped with CCTV to the Police.

“We will also work towards improving mobility of the Police Command.We will not stop, we will continue to do our best.You are our host command It is happening because of the relationship of the Inspector General of Police,IGP Kayode Egbetokun with the commission.

 

“He sees that partnership is the only way the Force can benefit more.He is so passionate to ensure the police does better. we are going to support him because he has the vision of the President.
“Without communication no security. Security is going digital.
This is a gesture of our appreciation to tell you you that you have done very well Without you working hard, crime rate will not reduce”.
The MD of NDDC thanked the Inspector General of Police,Commissioner of Police Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu for initiating the project.

In his welcome address,the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State,CP Mustapha Bala represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations, DCP Samuel Erale said “what we are doing is one of the things we were expecting NDDC to do for us.The event was initiative of immediate past Commissioner of Police,Rivers state CP Disu.I am aware he brought the idea to the MD of NDDC.I know the effort the present Commissioner of Police,CP Bala made to CEO of NDDC”.

CP Bala listed building and furnishing of quarters of Senior Police Officers,Provision of patrol vans and vehicles for senior officers as some of the kind gesture of NDDC towards the Police.

The Rivers Commissioner of Police stated that with the provision of the equipment residents should go to sleep and be assured the Police is everywhere.

The CP disclosed that the equipment gives 80 percent coverage of communication in the state.

He said it works effectively with the station.

In his speech, immediate Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olatunji Disu thanked the MD of NDDC for the provision of the equipment because communication is key in policing.
“We have officers who are dedicated to work.We will put it in good use” CP Disu said.
