What Offence Have I Committed To Warrant Impeachments-Gov. Fubara Address Ijaw Youths After Police Uses Bullets, Water Cannons On Convoy

The crisis in Rivers state is few steps away from degenerating into anarchy as security agents on Monday fired water cannons directly at the Governor, Similanyi Fubara.

The Governor who was at the House of Assembly complex to address his teeming supporters came under attack by the police reportedly sent to forestall breakdown of law and order.

Addressing some of his supporters, the governor accused security agencies of compromise.

He spoke after Edie Edison, his strong ally, was removed as Majority Leader of the Rivers House of Assembly.

The governor, who said he had committed no offence to warrant impeachment, asked those after him to come out openly.

He said, “From what I have seen the security agency is even compromised. They were shooting at me directly but it doesn’t matter, somebody will die one day.

“When people here ask who is this Fubara? He is that man that was killed for his struggle. I am not against anybody. I’m not planning anything against anybody that I don’t know where these things are coming from.

“Let it be put on record that whoever masterminded this is trying to shift… I heard some people gathered to do whatever. That is purely rubbish. You can’t sit when there is problem and say you are doing anything. What are you doing? I’m the chief security officer. I’m the head of the government… whatever action that is taken here is null and void. For our good people, I know you are prayerful. You have been praying for me. God will see us to the end.”

Fubara has reportedly fallen out with his predecessor and current Minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.No description available.

This was as members of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, have also taken over there Assembly premises over the development. It was gathered that 24 lawmakers of the assembly have already on Monday morning signed and impeachment notice and forwarded same to Fubara.

It was learned that the governor following the development had stormed the assembly premises to allegedly stop the process.

Recall the Rivers State House of Assembly was set ablaze yesterday by suspected political thugs in the state.

This is following a move by the house to commence an impeachment process on the Leader of the House, Hon. Edison Ehie, and the state Governor, Fubara on Monday.

The arsonists had carried out the act at about 9:45pm, causing uneasy calm around the assembly complex where the State Police Command also stands.

A source said the legislature has concluded plans to impeach the duo on Monday at its resumed sitting following some undisclosed issues.It was gathered that following the development some youths had invaded the assembly complex and set it ablaze.

A senior police officer in the state, who did not want to be mentioned confirmed the development, adding that it took efforts of police and the state Fire Service teams to put out the fire.

The source said: “Yes, the Rivers State House of Assembly main chamber was under attack and set on fire. It was policemen and the fire service team that helped to put out the fire.”
