Why Family Planning, Child Spacing Is Very Important For All- Anambra Health Commissioner

The Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Ben Obidike has reiterated the importance of Family Planning and Child spacing in the society.

Dr. Obidike said this during the state’s Cascade Training on Long-Acting Reversal Contraceptives (LARC) with emphasis on Levoplant Implant and Hormona-IUD produced by DKT, a non-governmental organization that develops family planning commodities and offers other services.

The training, held in Awka, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

Dr. Obidike noted that the importance of family planning and child spacing in the society can never be over emphasized. According to him, family planning helps to reduce economic burden on the parents.

The Commissioner thanked DKT for supporting the state with various family planning commodities.

He assured that the state will continue to partner them to achieve its family planning objectives while urging participants to take the training serious in order to teach others in their various facilities across the state.

The Commissioner appealed to the trainees to always counsel women properly for them to understand what they want to do and choose the best for themselves, as well as teach them all the risks factors in all the family planning methods at all times.

The Anambra State Family Planning Coordinator; Mrs. Amara Ezeokenwa appreciated the DKT for organizing the four-day residential training for Reproductive Health Supervisors(RHS) from the Tertiary, Secondary and Primary healthcare centres in the state.

Mrs. Ezeokenwa explained that after the training, the RHS officers will go back to their facilities to cascade the knowledge for an effective and efficient family planning in the state.

A representative of the DKT, Mr. Rex Idemudia, explained that they are a non governmental organization that is into family planning, child spacing, contraception and reproductive health.

”Our Mission is to ensure that family planning commodities get to the nooks and crannies of Nigeria.”

Mr. Idemudia said that they are also into commodity development, maintained that they equally teach people the various methods of family planning from injectables to implants among others to ensure a safe, effective and affordable family planning.

Practical demonstrations by the trainees as well as a question and answer session were highlights of the training.
