Wike Refutes Makinde’s Story Of Holding PDP For Tinubu 2027

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has strongly rejected claims made by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, that he promised to secure the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

Wike described the allegation as false and misleading. Speaking during a media interaction on Monday, he said no such discussion ever took place and insisted that he never made such a pledge to the president.

According to the former Rivers State governor, there was never any meeting involving himself and President Tinubu where such a promise was discussed or agreed upon.

The reaction followed comments made earlier by Governor Makinde during a press briefing in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. At the event, Makinde criticised what he described as attempts by some political leaders to influence the choices of others.Politics

Makinde said political support should be a personal decision and argued that no individual has the right to impose their preference on others.

He claimed that he was present at a meeting attended by Wike, President Tinubu, and a few other individuals. According to Makinde, Wike allegedly declared at the meeting that he would deliver the PDP in support of Tinubu’s 2027 ambition.

Makinde said the statement surprised him and stressed that he would not be part of any such arrangement.

However, Wike dismissed the account entirely, insisting that the story is untrue and did not happen in any form.
The FCT minister also added that Makinde has never directly confronted him or addressed him personally over the issue, noting that the governor has never called him by name to his face.
