A viral video online has shown the moment trucks reportedly stationed by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, at the site of the disputed land in Abuja moved out.
A man in the video claimed that officials of the Federal Capital Development Authority have moved their trucks away from the site after the confrontation with the military officers.
In the video, some trucks were seen leaving the area while residents were seen cheering. One of the voices said, “Shame on you, Wike don go with his trucks, soldiers have won this fight.”This led to a confrontation between the security details of Wike and the soldiers at the land venue.
The viral video generated mixed reactions, including praises and condemnation from Nigerians and some retired military officers.Meanwhile, Bello Matawalle, Minister of State for Defence and former Zamfara governor, has clarified that the military officer who clashed with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, in a viral video, will not be sanctioned.
Speaking in an interview with DCL Hausa, Matawalle dismissed public speculation that the soldier might face disciplinary action, saying the incident was being exaggerated.
Matawalle emphasised that the ministry values mutual respect between civil authorities and the military, adding that the matter has been resolved without any need for punitive measures. Matawalle, in his response to the incident, said the officer did nothing wrong and had acted within the ambit of the law.
“What happened with the minister is not good. The FCT minister (Wike) was not supposed to approach the young officer like that,” he said.
The former Zamfara governor further said, “He is our colleague — even if there is an issue, he should have contacted us first.
“What the soldier did was correct because he was trained to follow due process. He acted respectfully and deserves appreciation for that. Why did you think the FCT trucks were moved out of the disputed site? Let us know in the comment section below.
