Benue Killings: Congress of Idoma Journalists Fumes, Says FG, BNSG Should Bring Perpetrators To Justice

The Congress of Idoma Journalists (COIJ) worldwide has condemned in strong term the killings of 30 persons by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen in Akpuuna and Diom communities in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue state.

The killing according to report took place on Saturday the 8th July, 2023 leaving atleast 30 persons dead with different persons sustaining different degree of injuries.

In statement signed by the Secretary General of the group, Okpani Mike Odeh. Akatu on Tuesday, COIJ expressed deep sadness at the incessant bloodletting in the state while condoling Governor of the state Rev Father Hyacient Alia

It also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to put up measures to stop the bloodletting while his administration proffer lasting solution to the barbaric and gruesome murder of innocent indigenes of Benue before the people resort to self help that may lead to the break down of law and order

Furthermore, the apex Idoma group called on both the Federal and State governments to do everything possible to bring the perpetrators to justice

While praying for the repose of souls of the victims, the group called on residents of the state to remain calm and not take laws into their hands
