Video: See Measures Rotary Is Putting In Place To Prevent Cholera Outbreak In Communities

As parts of efforts to prevent the outbreak of  diseases especially Cholera which has spread to over 30 states with Lagos recording 24 deaths from 417 cases. The Rotary International, Has taken the lead in prevention and mitigating the rising numbers of deaths associated to Cholera amongst school pupils, by providing  toilet facilities And Water, Sanitation and Hygiene known WASH.

The Incoming 2024/ 2025 Rotary district 9141Governor Chinedu Ikegwuani at a foundation laying ceremony of six rooms toilet facility for community Secondary schools in Eliozu said Rotary pays adequate attention to the environment, management of waste and personal hygiene as its top priority amongst Rotary 7 areas of focus

The incoming DG  Chinedu Ikegwuani Urge More communities to join by participating,  adopting behioverial changes in areas where Rotary is sighting her project  and also take individual responsibilities by maintaining personal hygiene. Ensuring the provision of soap at hand washing stations and All WASH facilities as measures to stem the killer disease

Also speaking at the foundation laying ceremony for the six room Toilet facility, The landlord and  representative of Eliozu community Elder A.U Lazarus Weli Amadi expressed gratitude to the Rotary foundation for always impacting the society. he said his late father donated the land the school is built on due to his desire to attract education and impact the next generation as such the community is open to all available humane ventures that can improve lives of Indigene  and all resident of the community

In Her speech The Senior secondary principal of Community Secondary School Eliozu Mrs. Jane Georgewill thanked the Rotary DG and Rotarians for prioritizing humanity above self despite the soaring economic challenges, She said prevention of cholera is achievable and parts of it is by provide facilities that can aid good hygiene which Rotary has taken the lead by providing the toilet facility

The supervising presidents for the WASH project RTN ANITA OGONA of Rotary club of port Harcourt Orbit said the project was borne out of sheer needs assessment of the school especially with the high number of teenage girls who would be needing a space to wash and change pads during menstruations periods.

For his part the president of Rotary club of Port Harcourt Gateway. Prince Edegbuo who gave the scope of  the project said all necessary safety measure would be put in place to ensure the completion of the project within 6 weeks and also urge the principal to acquaint the students with alternative and precautionary measures against the deadly cholera disease outbreak.

Our correspondent reports that the 6 Rooms toilet facilities is a joint sponsorship of four clubs represented at the venue by the clubs President Elect, Rotarians and guest
