Presidential aspirants under the banner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have reportedly reached a mutual understanding to throw their collective support behind whichever candidate wins the party’s presidential primary ahead of the 2027 general election.
This was revealed by the former governor of Rivers State and minister for transportation, Rotimi Amaechi,in an interview with Leadership Newspaper. The move is seen as a significant step towards ensuring internal harmony and strengthening the party’s position in the highly competitive race for Nigeria’s top office.
”What we agreed in principle, and I must say there is a need to lay the cards on the table – what we agreed is that whoever emerges from a transparent primary will be supported by everyone.”
Amaechi emphasized that the spirit of unity among the aspirants is rooted in a shared desire to bring about meaningful change in Nigeria. However, he cautioned that the agreement to support the eventual winner is contingent on the primary being conducted in an open and transparent manner.
