Man Standing Trial Shoots Judge Dead During Court Session

A shocking scene unfolded in Tirana, the Albanian capital, on Monday when a man on trial fatally shot a judge during a live court session, leaving two others injured.
According to police reports, the incident occurred as Appeals Court Judge Astrit Kalaja was presiding over the suspect’s ongoing case. Without warning, the defendant drew a firearm and opened fire inside the courtroom.Authorities confirmed that the suspect was immediately apprehended by security personnel at the scene before he could escape.

“The judge was rushed to the hospital, but succumbed to his injuries on the way,” a police statement read.

Two other individuals involved in the proceedings — a father and son — were also struck by bullets. Both victims were transported to the hospital and are said to be in stable condition, police added.

Local media outlets reported that the trial stemmed from a longstanding property dispute, and the gunman allegedly attacked the judge after realizing that the verdict was likely to go against him.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage in Albania, with legal professionals and citizens alike condemning the violent act and calling for tighter security measures within court premises
