Nigerian Army Repel ISWAP Att∆ck in Borno, Adamawa k!lling Several Terrorists Attempting To Escap£

The Nigerian Army says troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled coordinated attacks by terrorists on military bases in Adamawa and Borno states.

In a statement on Friday, S.A. Atokolo, acting media information officer of operation Hadin Kai, said several of the assailants were killed during the operation.

Atokolo said terrorists, in the early hours of Friday, attempted to overrun a patrol base at Sabon Gari in Madagali LGA of Adamawa state, under sector 4 of Operation Hadin Kai.

He said troops at the base engaged the attackers, while reinforcements from Gulak and the battalion quick reaction force were deployed, forcing the terrorists to retreat without any casualties on the side of the military.

According to him, troops later cleared the area and conducted scans for improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and booby traps to ensure the safety of personnel and civilians.

He added that terrorists also launched a multi-directional attack on the forward operating base (FOB) Azir in Borno state.

Atokolo said parts of the base’s defensive perimeter were initially breached, noting that troops, with support from the air component of operation Hadin Kai and other army aerial platforms, repelled the attack after a firefight that lasted over an hour.

He said during the encounter, terrorists’ rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) fire affected troop-carrying vehicles and the CCTV control room, which were partially gutted by fire.

Atokolo said troops retained control of the base and recovered several weapons and ammunition, including a 60 mm mortar tube, mortar bombs, locally fabricated explosives, heavy machine gun rounds, and hundreds of rounds of 7.62 mm NATO ammunition.

He said intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platforms tracked the fleeing terrorists, leading to follow-up air strikes along their withdrawal routes.

The spokesperson added that additional terrorists were killed by air strikes.
