After Years Of Neglect, Gov. Fubara Revives 105-bed Ahoada Zonal Hospital

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, on 23 December 2025, inaugurated the state-of-the-art remodelled Ahoada Zonal Hospital, formally ending years of abandonment and restoring a critical healthcare facility that had suffered neglect under successive administrations.

The hospital, now a 105-bed modern facility, has been significantly expanded beyond its original design to include specialised units such as surgery, radiology, intensive care and advanced diagnostics, positioning it as a major referral centre for the Orashi axis.

Strategically located in Ahoada Town, the upgraded hospital is expected to ease pressure on overcrowded tertiary hospitals by bringing advanced medical services closer to residents of Ahoada East, Ahoada West, Abua/Odual and Emohua Local Government Areas.

The facility now serves as a vital link between grassroots primary healthcare centres and distant teaching hospitals, ensuring quicker referrals and faster access to specialised care.

Since its revitalisation, healthcare attendance has surged by nearly 200%, rising from about 407,250 to almost 1.2 million patients annually.

Hospital deliveries have increased by 40 per cent, while the number of skilled birth attendants has grown by 60 per cent, prompting further expansion to include a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and modern delivery suites.

The Ahoada Zonal Hospital is also a cornerstone of the presidential initiative to transform emergency obstetric and newborn care in Rivers State, with particular focus on high-burden local government areas such as Ahoada-West and Emohua.

With its transformation, the hospital stands as a clear symbol of renewed commitment to accessible, quality healthcare and a practical demonstration of governance that delivers real dividends to the people.

May Gov. Sim Fubara Succeed.
