According to a report by The Punch on Sunday, June 7, 2026, the Nigeria Police Force has disclosed details of the operation that led to the rescue of three relatives of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, following their abduction in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to the police, two suspected kidnappers were killed during a gun battle with operatives of the Force Intelligence Department’s Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT), while the victims were rescued unharmed.
The victims, identified as Adelabu’s younger sister, Olaide John-Paul, and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, regained their freedom on Saturday after spending three days in captivity.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, the rescue operation was carried out around 7:30 p.m. following days of intelligence gathering, surveillance, and coordinated tactical efforts.
Placid explained that investigators successfully tracked the movement of the kidnappers, leading to a confrontation between the suspects and the police team.
“The rescue was achieved through sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical operations,” the police spokesman stated.
He added that two suspected members of the kidnapping gang were fatally wounded during the exchange of gunfire, while security operatives recovered two rifles from the scene.
“The victims were rescued unharmed and are now in safe custody, receiving medical care and support,” Placid said.
