President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday met with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, as part of the move to resolve the lingering battle between the estranged political associates.

It was gathered that some political leaders from the state were also present at the meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The details of the meeting have not been made public as of the time of writing this report. The meeting, held behind closed doors, comes amid the lingering political tension in Rivers State involving key stakeholders.

According to The Nation, sources familiar with the development said discussions were centred on issues affecting the state, although no official statement was released after the engagement. The source further revealed that after the meeting, Governor Fubara accompanied Wike to his residence in Guzape, Abuja.

The source further claimed that the governor appealed to the minister during the visit and pledged to maintain respect in their relationship going forward.

Fubara was said to have begged the minister, vowing never to disrespect him again

Recall that the running battle between the two led to the declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State, with Fubara and the State House of Assembly vacating their seats for 6 months before it was lifted.

This is not the first time Tinubu has brokered peace between Wike and the governor, but all past efforts have failed, leading to tension in the state.
