A 33 year old woman, identified as Olaide Adekunle, reportedly sold her baby in Lagos State in an attempt to repay a loan of 600,000 naira.
According to reports, Olaide, who lives in the Sango area of Ogun State, traveled to Lagos to carry out the act. Her husband later told authorities that she left home on March 15 with their baby girl, Mordiat Rasak, but returned without the child.
This raised alarm, and the matter was reported. She was later arrested by the police, where she confessed that she sold the baby to settle a debt she owed to a microfinance bank.
The case has since been transferred for further investigation, especially to determine how the baby can be traced and safely recovered.
