Presidency Accuses Wike Of Insubordination Warns Against Double Standards

FCT minister, Nyesom Wike has reportedly been warned against insubordination by the members of president Tinubu’s presidency.

According a presidential source, the presidency is unhappy with Nyesom Wike over what is regarded as “double standards” by the FCT who faces accusation of undermining president Tinubu’s unambiguous directives to the stakeholders of the All Progressive Congress (APC) ahead of the party’s primary elections across the states.

According to the source who spoke confidentially on the matter, the new clandestine move by Wike controlled Rivers state House of Assembly to begin impeachment process against governor Siminalayi Fubara is perceived by the presidency as Nyesom Wike’s blatant move to undermine president Tinubu’s authority.

Martin Amaewhule and members of the Rivers state House of Assembly is reportedly planning to resume plenary and for the fourth time, begin another impeachment process against governor Siminalayi Fubara after the governor confirmed his interest in seeking reelection in 2027.

The source revealed that the new impeachment plot began when governor Sim Fubara received the APC governorship expression of interest and nomination forms– the gesture is understood by the Wike’s camp as the governor confirming his interest in retaining the governorship seat in 2027.

The rumoured new impeachment plot against governor Siminalayi Fubara, comes at the expense of president Tinubu’s repeated interventions in the feud between the governor and Nyesom Wike who also publicly acknowledged that the last intervention by president Tinubu has restored lasting peace in Rivers state.

Fubara just picked the nomination form in APC and this has made Wike uncomfortable. This is while the governor again will face new impeachment when the Rivers House resume plenary. I can tell you that the presidency is not happy with Wike over this new move. It’s widely seen as undermining the president’s authority”, the source stated.

He added that the FCT minister’s recent moves in the APC has been reported to president Tinubu who is expected to call Wike to order necessary to avoid destabilizing the Rivers state APC.

According to the source, while Nyesom Wike has positioned lawmaker, Kingsley Chinda as the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers state, he has also planted in APC George Kelly, who currently serves as the Director-General (DG) of the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA), to rival governor Fubara over the ruling party’s governorship ticket for Rivers state.

George Kelly who a few days ago picked up the APC governorship nomination form for Rivers state, did so in defiance to president Tinubu’s directive mandating all government appointees with political aspiration to resign from their positions on or before 30th of March.

Hence, members of the presidency consider George Kelly’s behaviour as an affront to president Tinubu’s authority. He retains his position as Director-General (DG) of the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA) even when other political appointees including ministers, have resigned to pursue their political aspiration in compliance with the president’s directive.

While the national leadership of the APC have publicly shown their preference for governor Sim Fubara, George Kelly’s ambition in APC is widely seen as a decoy to frustrate governor Fubara by creating legal drawbacks in the emergence of governor Sim Fubara as the party’s governorship candidate while Nyesom Wike and the members of the Rainbow Coalition push for Kingsley Chinda’s electoral victory through the PDP.
