A statement released on Tuesday, the bank confirmed that Ovia stepped down after serving the maximum 12-year term as a non-executive director and chairman, in compliance with corporate governance guidelines set by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The regulatory policy limits the tenure of non-executive directors in financial institutions to ensure boardroom renewal, improve oversight, and strengthen governance standards across the banking sector.

Ovia, who founded Zenith Bank in 1990, has been instrumental in transforming the institution into one of Nigeria’s leading financial services providers, leaving behind a legacy of growth, stability, and strong corporate leadership.
