CSO’s In Rivers State Seeks Justice For Another Detained Ikokwu Mechanic, Allegedly Missing In Police Custody

Coalition of civil societies in rivers state RIVCAS is calling for the release of another mechanic detained in police cell on allegation of cultism

Speaking with newsmen in port Harcourt the chairman of Coalition of civil society group, Enefa Georgewill explained that efforts to get police to know the whereabout of Mr Chukwudi has proved abortive and made the following demands

JUSTICE FOR CHUKWUDI
Some facts about the case of Chukwudi an automobile mechanic who was tortured and is now missing in police custody

1. Mr. Chukwudi is an automobile mechanic based at Ikokwu Mechanic Village in Mile 3. Diobu, Port-Harcourt,
Rivers State.

2. On the 11th day of January, 2024, Police officers from octopus Unit, Mile 1 Police Division, Mile l, Diobu, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State arrested Mr. Chukwudi and two (2) other persons, on the allegation of cultism.

3. Mr. Chukwudi and the other two persons were taken to Mile 1 Police Division, tortured and detained.

4. Mr. Chukwudi’s relations made attempts to see him in the Station, but were not granted the opportunity.

5. All efforts by other persons, including lawyers, to see Mr. Chukwudi proved abortive, as the l.P.O refused to grant anyone the opportunity to see Mr. Chukwudi.

6. Later. Mr. Chibueze, brother to Mr. Chukwudi, managed to get the opportunity to see them.

7. Surprisingly. Mr. Chibueze saw only the other two suspects.

8. When Mr. Chibueze inquired about his brother, Mr. Chukwudi, the other two suspects informed Mr. Chibueze that
Mr. Chukwudi took ill following the severe torture on them by the police officers.

9. They also told him that the police officers took Mr. Chukwudi away, stating that they were taking him to a hospital for treatment.

10. Since then, no one has heard of Mr. Chukwudi, notwithstanding all the efforts and pleas made to the IPO.

Let’s not forget that in likewise manner Chima Ikwunado, another automobile mechanic was tortured to death by police officers in the year 2019.
