The family of Mr Ahmed,his five year old daughter, Sheila and his brother Afiz who collided with stationary waste collector truck at ObiriIkwerre flyover in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State leading to the death of the three persons,
They blamed alleged indiscriminate packing of waste collector truck on ObiriIkwerre flyover as the cause of the death.
In an interview with Journalists on Friday January 2,2026, Engr amoo muideen Ajiboye a brother to the deceased persons said “is so unfortunate that the waste collector truck packed at ObiriIkwerre flyover caused an accident. The truck was just stationed without caution sign and my brother Ahmed rammed into it on cross over night/new year.
“Eventually the incident took three lives.That of Ahmed, his daughter Sheila and his brother Afiz.The other occupants of the vehicle are still unconscious in the hospital.
“We call on the Government to look into this matter as these kind of acts has taken so many lives in Rivers State.
“We are appealing to the Government to do their investigation and look critically into this matter.We are calling on the waste management agency to call their contractors to order and do their findings as this has taken so many lives”.
Investigation by our reporter indicates that the wife, Son, sister of late Ahmed are other occupants of the vehicle who are are in the hospital with life threatening injuries.
The Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Chief Superintendent of Police CSP Grace Iring-Koko confirmed the incident. She said “two persons died at the spot. investigation is ongoing to ascertain the cause of the accident”.
Our correspondent reports that the daughter and brother of the driver of the vehicle,died at the spot while Ahmed died later in the evening at the hospital
