Eke Awka Cult War Leaves 3 Persons Dead, Police Denies Knowledge

No fewer than three people were on Sunday allegedly killed following the resurgence of cult war in Awka, Anambra State.

While one of the attacks was witnessed by passersby and traders at the Eke Awka area of the city, the locations of the other two is yet to be known at the time of filing this report.

Recall that on Easter Sunday which marked the return of cult war, no fewer than six persons were reportedly killed in the city.

It was however learnt that the clash was rekindled by the struggle for control of revenue accruing from tricycle and shuttle bus operators, through tickets, emblems and others.

A source who witnessed the Sunday attack said: Two tricycles were driving recklessly along Ziks Avenue at Eke Awka.

“They were pursuing themselves. At around Eke Awka market, the tricycle at the front got stuck in the traffic, and one boy inside it alighted and started running.

“Two boys in the tricycle behind also jumped down and pursued him. He ran towards Parkers area along Ziks Avenue, and diverted into a road by the right, into a mechanic workshop.

“The boys pursued him into the place, dragged him out and shot him to death. The incident caused pandemonium, and people were just running in all directions. For me, I didn’t even know I could run that fast.”

Meanwhile Police authorities have denied knowledge of any killing on Sunday.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, there was no such information before the command.
