The Libyan government has confirmed the deportation of a group of undocumented Nigerian migrants as part of its ongoing efforts to curb illegal migration within the country.
According to Libya’s Ministry of Interior, the deportation exercise was carried out via Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli, where the affected individuals were processed and flown out under official supervision.
In a statement shared on the ministry’s official Facebook page on Wednesday, authorities said the action formed part of a broader national strategy aimed at tackling irregular migration and enforcing immigration laws.
The ministry stressed that all legal, administrative, and humanitarian requirements were fully observed prior to the deportation, noting that the migrants were treated in line with established international standards.
Libyan authorities further disclosed that similar deportation exercises would continue in the coming weeks as part of a comprehensive migration management plan designed to reduce the movement of undocumented migrants through Libyan territory.
The government added that the initiative is also focused on strengthening internal security and preserving national stability, as Libya remains a major transit route for migrants attempting to reach Europe through the Mediterranean.
