NDLEA Raids Lagos ‘Skuchies’ Factory, Recovers Massive Drug Consignment, Arrest Manager, Others

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have uncovered a large-scale factory producing skuchies, a cocktail of cannabis mixed with black currant drink, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

The agency said the clampdown was part of its ongoing efforts to curb the spread of dangerous cocktails and synthetic mixtures that are fast becoming popular among young Nigerians.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the agency said acting on credible intelligence, NDLEA officers stormed the illicit facility located in the Caritas, Ibeshe axis of Ikorodu on Thursday, September 11, and seized no fewer than 6,029 bottles of the new psychoactive substance already packaged for distribution.

The statement reads in part, “In the Ikorodu area of Lagos, NDLEA operatives acting on intelligence on Thursday, 11th September, raided a factory producing skuchies, a blend of cannabis and black currant drink.

“No less than 6, 029 bottles of the new psychoactive substance and 4,232kg of cannabis were recovered from the factory located in Caritas, Ibeshe area of Ikorodu, while the factory manager Joy Awosika was arrested. Another suspect, Akeem Oriola, was arrested the same day in the Mushin area of Lagos with 26kg skunk.”

According to the NDLEA, in Abuja, a 29-year-old dispatch rider was caught with 50.7 grams of cocaine and 66 grams of Loud. In Oyo State, three women were arrested with 17kg of skunk. Along Zaria–Kano Road, operatives intercepted 100,000 tramadol pills from a 38-year-old suspect. In Kano, 196 litres of Akuskura, 34.1kg of skunk, 493 tubes of rubber solution, and 25 litres of “suck and die” were recovered from two suspects.

The agency said a couple was arrested in Anambra with 13.9kg of methamphetamine and 5.3kg of skunk, while another suspect in the state was found with meth, tramadol, swinol, heroin, and skunk. In Yobe, a man was arrested with 22.1kg of cannabis in his residence.

Three trans-border traffickers were also intercepted in Ogun State with 394kg of skunk during a joint NDLEA-police-vigilante operation. Three motorcycles used to transport the drugs were seized.

“In Edo state, a total of 16,966.633 kilograms of skunk were destroyed on a cannabis plantation measuring 6.786653 hectares at Ugbogyi forest, Ovia South West LGA, while 112 bags of processed cannabis weighing 1,176 kilograms were also recovered at the farm, where four suspects: Ebenezer Ewang; Oshore John; Emmanuel Monday; and David Sunday, were arrested,” it said.
