NUJ, Applauds Rivers Journalist For Bringing Positive Change With Reports On UPTH ICU Horrors

Good journalism does not need justification for its existence, because its service to society is justification in itself, such is the investigation by the Guardians news correspondents  Ann Godwin on the Echoes of patients at the Port Harcourt university teaching hospital while urging the hospital management to embrace the IMPACT JOURNALISM that brought the Burna Boy Act of Kindness at UPTH. Two weeks after this Guardian report by award winning Investigative Journalist Ann Chukwuka Godwin on University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) https://guardian.ng/saturday-magazine/at-upths-icu-horror-nightmare-as-caregivers-exploit-sick-dying-patients/
Shortly after the Grammy award winning artist Burna Boy visited UPTH, pays bills for all patients.
This is heartwarming 💖💕 I urge the authorities of UPTH to see this Guardian report as a charge to up their ante, fill in the lacunas and look into the issues of exploitation of patients by health care workers and also opportunities for more gestures to come their way than to deny these issues as non existence.
However the Nigerian of journalist in a press release also commended the Reporter for her efforts as follows:
The Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has applauded the Grammy award winning musician, Domini Ogulu Burna Boy for his generosity in paying for all patients medical bills at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital ( UPTH).
The Union is happy with the musician for his kind gestures for saving Livies.
The Union advised that the management of UPTH to take up the task to meet the required standard of a teaching hospital.
As Journalists, we must at all times set agender for the development of institutes and the nation and to protect and advance the socio economic interests of the society and such other objectives as are lawful and are consistent with the spirit and practice of journalists.
“The Union commended the Guardian Correspondent to have adhered to the code of Ethics of Nigerian Journalists as approved by the Nigerian Press Organisation. Without the trending reports, this wouldn’t have happened”, he said
