PDP Lawmakers Elected Speaker, Deputy, In A Labour Party Dominated Enugu State Assembly

Hon. Uche Ugwu, representing Udi North State Assembly in the Enugu State House of Assembly, has been elected speaker of the state’s 8th House Assembly.  Uche Ugwu is the House’s immediate deputy speaker.

He was nominated by Mr Iloabuchi Aniagu, a member of Nkanu West State Constituency, and seconded by Mr Chukwudi Nwankwo, a member of Awgu South.

When no further nominations for the seat were made, he was proclaimed elected by the clerk of the House, Mr Okey Udeaya.

Similarly, Mr Ezenta Ezeani of Igboetiti West State Constituency has been elected deputy speaker of the House. Ms Jane Eneh, who represents Awgu North Constituency, nominated him.

Mr. Okey Mba, a member of the Nkanu East State Constituency, seconded his nomination.

The speaker and his deputy are members of the Peoples Democratic Party, which has ten members in the House.

The Labour Party has a majority in the house with fourteen members.
