Police AIG Zone16 Visits Rivers State Command, Promises Materials/Equipment Boost For Optimal Policing

The Assistant Inspector General of Police(AIG), Paul Ojeka Odama, AIG in charge of zone 16 Bayelsa, comprising .of Rivers and Bayelsa states zone on Thursday, December 7, visited the Rivers State Police command to familiarization  with the command.

Addressing the Management and officers of the command, AIG Ojeka said “my purpose is to know you and you know me. We have being working together, receiving signals from me. There is need for us to meet one on one.

“Rivers Command is one of the biggest command in the country in ranks with Lagos and Kano states Command Because of the metropolitan nature of the state, crime sometimes is high. We have people coming in from all parts of the country to Rivers.No description available.

“Policing Rivers is not easy. I thank the Rivers Commissioner of Police for his job so far. I know Rivers command is accumulating achievements. Rivers Command is also performing very well in ares of crime fighting.

” I want you to do more. Crime cannot be eradicated totally but bring it to the barest minimum”.

On the challenges facing the Rivers Command as earlier listed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, AIG Ojeka said he will take the command’s challenges to Inspector General of Police and he is sure, IGP will listen.

Earlier, CP Disu stated that the visit of the AIG is coming at the right time for officers of the command to perform their duty optimal.

CP Disu disclosed that the Rivers Police Command have seventy Police Divisions and ten Area commands.

The Rivers Police chief explained that when he assumed duty he went round local Government areas in the state to appraise security situation.

The Rivers Police Boss revealed that more disturbing is the killing of SP Bako Angbashim, Divisional Police Officer(DPO) of Ahoada Police Division.

CP Disu stated that one of his mandates in Rivers State is to ensure the killers of SP Angbashim are fish out .

He listed shortage of arms and ammunition, dearth of Armoured personnel vehicles, shortage of barrack accommodation ,.shortage of marine equipment as some of the challenges facing the command.

He appealed to the AIG to look into the challenges facing the command .
