Police Arraigns PH Federal Lawmaker One Count Charge Of Money Laundering

A member of House of Representatives for Port Harcourt City Local Government Constituency two at the National Assembly, CHINYERE IGWE has been arraigned before a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt by Nigerian Police.

CHINYERE IGWE who is an ally of Presidential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party for the just concluded Presidential election, ATIKU ABUBARKAR was arraigned on one count of money laundering.

According to the charge read out before IGWE is alleged to have on the 24th day of February, 2023 seen in his possession, the sum of four hundred and ninety-eight thousand US Dollars without reporting to the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Our correspondent reports that when the charge was read, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and his Counsel made an application for bail which was objected by Police counsel.

Trial Judge, Justice STEPHEN DAYLOP-PAM after listening to the argument, adjourned till 14th of March, 2023 for bail consideration but thereafter directed that the accused be sent to Nigerian Police Clinic for his medical attention following a medical report on his health.
