In a dramatic turn of events, Yusuf Ata, the minister of housing and urban development, has declared that he will step down if the current APC state chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, is re-elected.
Speaking at a press conference in Kano on Monday, Mr Ata made it clear that his resignation would encompass both his ministerial position and his membership in the party.
He said, โThis is my position to this day. We oppose the reinstatement of the current APC leadership in Kano, given what happened in the last election.
โWe will not accept this situation again. If the leadership remains, I will resign from my ministerial post and leave APC.
Mr Ata emphasised his strong moral values and respect for elders, noting, โWe will not compromise our values.โ
He expressed concerns over the party leadershipโs statements, which he believed contributed to the partyโs failure in 2023.
โWe must engage individuals of integrity to gain the trust of Kano citizens,โ Mr Ata stressed.
He said, โVotes and money do not grant power; only God bestows authority.โ
Mr Ata urged politicians from all parties to promote peace, respect each other, and follow the rules.
