ILD: Over 100 Pupils Living In Diobu Slum /Waterfronts Benefit From KIR Foundation Educational Materials Empowerment

As parts of moves to encourage reading and spelling skills amongst students, a non-governmental organization, Keeping It Real foundation has given text and exercise books to more than one hundred pupils living in waterfronts in Port Harcourt.

Presenting the books to the beneficiaries, the Volunteer executive of Keeping It Real Foundation, BITEBO GOGO said according to data, lack of educational materials is one of the barriers to quality education. She said said most students Between the ages Seven to Fourteen living in the slum area cannot read and write  which prompted their giving after a comprehensive research of the area.

Bitebo Gogo said 60 percent of the children in slum areas are in public and low budget private schools she also noted that according to statistics by global citizens, the fourth barrier to quality education is lack of educational materials.

In their responses, a cross section of the beneficiaries said the books will aid their reading abilities.

They commended the non-governmental organization for the donation.

Some of the parents and children from the waterfront who spoke with our correspondent, said they have been yearning for reading materials to could enhance their reading and spelling and expressed joy over the text and exercise books donations from KIR.No description available.
