Former Minister Of FCT Abuja, Useni Is Dead

Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lt. General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, has passed away.

Family sources reveal that he succumbed to a lengthy illness on Thursday, January 23, 2025.

The news of General Useni’s passing was confirmed in a heartfelt statement by Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, conveyed through his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere.

Governor Mutfwang described this loss as not just a sorrow for Useni’s immediate family, but a significant blow to the Nigerian Armed Forces, the people of Plateau State, and the nation at large. He highlighted General Useni’s exemplary leadership and unwavering dedication to service, which have etched an indelible mark on Nigeria’s security and political landscape.

Mutfwang reflected on General Useni’s relentless efforts to foster peace and security, particularly in Northern Nigeria and Plateau State, ensuring that his legacy will forever be cherished.

He recounted the late General’s distinguished career, marked by service to Nigeria in various esteemed roles, including Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and Minister of the FCT.

“Upon retiring from military life, General Useni transitioned seamlessly into politics, continuing his commitment to the nation. He served as Deputy Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and was elected as Senator for Plateau South Senatorial District in 2015 under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP),” he shared.

Mutfwang praised General Useni’s life of selfless service and his remarkable contributions to both the military and his community. He underscored the General’s lasting legacy of compassion, kindness, and unwavering dedication to the welfare of others, which will remain alive in the hearts of those he touched.
