Operatives of the Ogun State Community Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) have apprehended a 27-year-old man, Emmanuel Awahnse, over allegations of stealing three goats in Ipokia Local Government Area.
The suspect was apprehended in a church during the naming ceremony of his child.
According to So-Safe Corps Commander, Dr. Soji Ganzallo, Awahnse was first spotted on February 6, 2026, around 5:00 a.m. by operatives patrolling the Madoga–Ita-Ege road.
The suspect, accompanied by an accomplice, was seen fleeing on a motorcycle while carrying a black bag. During a chase, the duo abandoned the motorcycle and the bag, which contained three stolen goats.
Following the discovery, a surveillance team was deployed to track down the suspects.
Awahnse, also known as Ariwo Oja, a native of Odoforo in Ipokia, was eventually arrested on February 19 at 1:30 p.m.
Preliminary investigations revealed that he and his accomplice, Ketonsu (alias Ijagun), allegedly stole the goats at Ifonyintedo.
Suspect handed over to police
Dr. Ganzallo confirmed that the recovered animals and Awahnse have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Idiroko Division, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The So-Safe Corps emphasized its commitment to community safety and the swift apprehension of offenders to deter criminal activities in Ogun State.
The arrest has sparked discussions about vigilance during local events and the role of community patrols in preventing theft.
