Did You Know That 9000 Out Of 13,000 Women Diagnosed With Cervical Cancer Die Every Year? Vaccine To The Rescue Free Of Charge

The  United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund  UNICEF says it us working with Relevant Health agencies to enlightenment young girls on the current scourge of cervical cancer and how to reduce, prevent and eliminate cancer by taking the Campaigns to the nooks and cranny of the state

The UNICEFs Rep in company of other Public health experts, WHO, SBCC, and Rep of the state primary Care Management Board Stated this when the team visited the state chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ, seeking her partnership in actualization of this  targeted goals

Leading the team of the health expert, the state health educator Diana Babbo of the Rivers State primary health care management board board revealed that thirteen thousand women are diagnosed with cervical cancer every and out of this figure nine thousand die yearly from cervical cancer complications.

She said it’s proposing a one week awareness campaign to enable women who are in their prime to be safe of cervical cancer by targeting girls between the age 9 to 14 years, to protect the girls in their prime early enough from falling out with cervical cancer. While also focusing and making sure that out of school girls also benefits from the free HPV Vaccination
She said “our aims is to protect the girls in the future from falling out with cervical cancer”

She also noted that ‘cancer is a big concern to all public health practitioners, because most women discovers during screening that they have started noticing some changes around that area late, this is not just for only older women but it also affects young girls from 5 years and above.” To a lot of women when they screen they find out that cervix is changing in its form, it’s becoming cancerous before you know it, the woman is gone.
Currently thirteen thousand cases are found every year and out of the thirteen thousand, nine thousand will die from cervical cancer. So there are things that outside world and as Nigerians have begun to accept that there are measures we can take to prevent cancer
She said it will be working with Nawoj as a way of ensuring adequate public awareness and issues related to cervical cancer.
So we are trying to see if we can use your platform as well sensitive women and girls in Rivers state.
We are Launching the campaign May 2024, we started early this early so that people will benefit from this life saving vaccines. We want to create awareness, Sensitize the people so that people with concern can come up and tell us their challenges, because when the campaign starts we will enter the field with our bags of vaccine, so as to have little or no resistance, because our aim like I said earlier is to reduce scourge of cancer,
we are not the only state giving out this vaccine, 16 states have already started.
The leadership of the Nigerian association of Women Journalists NAWOJ has promised to partner with the state primary health care management board As part of her efforts in ensuring that her platform is used as medium to Sensitize and enlightened the populace.
Responding to the team of health experts, the state chairperson of NAWOJ Susan Serekara-Nwikhana said being that her members are all women, in various media houses, from the print, Radio, Television and digital media, the message will surely get to the target audience and promised to inform her members on the need to take the campaign seriously by giving it the adequate publicity it deserves.
