Tragedy struck Annunciation Catholic School in south Minneapolis, United States, on Wednesday morning, leaving up to 20 people injured in a senseless shooting rampage.
The gunman, clad in black and armed with a rifle, unleashed a wave of violence around 8:45 a.m., just 30 minutes after the all-school mass concluded at 8:15 a.m., according to CBS News.
The suspect later took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to reports, the unfortunate incident triggered a massive law enforcement response, with multiple agencies, including the FBI, state patrol, and Minneapolis police, swarming the scene at 54th Street between Harriet and Garfield avenues. Authorities are now scouring the area for any additional threats.
The Minneapolis police department has assured the public that there is no ongoing threat, but residents are advised to steer clear of West 54th Street between Lyndale and Nicollet avenues.
Families of the students are gathering at a reunification area located at Annunciation School, 525 West 54th Street.
Governor Tim Walz has expressed his heartfelt prayers for the students, teachers, and staff affected by this horrific act of violence, which marred the first week of school.
A news conference is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to provide further updates.
“I’m praying for our kids and teachers whose first week of school was marred by this horrific act of violence,” Walz said.
President Donald Trump wrote on TruthSocial that he has been “fully briefed on the tragic shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota.”
“The FBI quickly responded and they are on the scene. The White House will continue to monitor this terrible situation. Please join me in praying for everyone involved,” he said.
