The attention of the Rivers State Police Command has been drawn to an online publication alleging misconduct and attempting to link ACP London Irikefe, Commander 56 PMF, with the arrest and prosecution of one Darlington Ogulo, one Eze Woke Solomon, one Wali Perfect and one Augustine Charles, who are alleged to be working for one Gabriel Asa Abuja.
The Command wishes to state clearly that ACP London Irikefe was not involved in the arrest or prosecution of the said suspects. The Police operation was initiated strictly in response to a formal complaint of an alleged abduction and the subsequent findings made by Police operatives at the scene.
On 17 August 2026, at about 1830hrs, one Gift Benjamin Odogbo, of Rumualuu Community, reported that her mother, one Kate Odogbo, had allegedly been abducted by unknown gunmen on 12 August 2026. After four days of searching for her mother, she reportedly discovered that she was being held at a detention facility allegedly owned by one Gabriel Asa Abuja, who was described by the suspects as their leader and belonging to the Nigeria Forest Guard.
Upon receipt of the report, the Command immediately mobilised operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU-AKU) to the scene. The victim was found inside a cell and successfully rescued by the team.
Four suspects were arrested, namely one Darlington Ogulo, 47 years old, one Eze Woke Solomon, 25 years old, one Wali Perfect, 24 years old and one Augustine Charles, 25 years old. The arrest resulted in the recovery of one pump-action firearm and one locally fabricated long gun. In addition, the major access road leading to the facility was found to have been blocked with sandbags.
Preliminary investigation revealed allegations bordering on illegal possession of firearms, intimidation of members of the public, unlawful detention and establishment of a security outfit without the requisite licence or authorisation. The suspects were unable to produce the necessary documentation to identify themselves with their claimed outfit.
The Command further wishes to emphasise that no private security outfit or individual is authorised to establish or operate a detention facility in a manner that assumes or purports to exercise Police powers. More importantly, the use of Police colours, markings, insignia or other Police-identifying features on any building or structure in a manner capable of misleading members of the public into believing that it is an authorised Police facility is unacceptable and constitute an offence.
The four suspects were subsequently charged to court on 21 August 2026.
The Rivers State Police Command therefore urges members of the public to disregard misleading narratives attempting to link ACP London Irikefe to the arrest and prosecution of the suspects. The arrest was based solely on the complaint received, the circumstantial evidence at the scene, need to rescue and protect the alleged victim.
The Command also cautions members of the public, bloggers, social media influencers and content creators against the dissemination of false, misleading or defamatory information capable of causing public mischief, damaging reputations or undermining ongoing investigations. Such acts may constitute offences under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act. Members of the public are therefore advised to verify information from credible and official sources before publishing or sharing same on any platform.
