2023 General Elections: NBA Will Render pro bono Legal Representation To INEC – President, YC Maikyau

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC will get pro bono legal representation and other services from the members of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA in cases involving the 2023 general elections.

The NBA President, YC Maikyau SAN informed members of the NBA National Executive Council of the Association at its quarterly meeting held in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State that he has submitted list of members of the association who volunteered to assist the electoral umpire with legal services, free of Charge to INEC.

The NBA President further informed the NBA-NEC that INEC was happy for the pro-bono offer of legal services from the Lawyers.

The NBA President who initiated the pro-bono services as one of the ways the association can help the nation towards a credible polls explained that the role members of the Association will play in defense of INEC is not to defend INEC at all cost but to offer legal direction in accordance with the Justice of each case.

Following the Conclusion of the 2023 general elections, the independent National Electoral commission INEC will be sued in hundreds of cases involving the conduct of the election.

INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu had in February when the NBA President paid him a courtesy visit lamented that the Commission had been joined in 1,241 intra-party lawsuits in different courts of law, on primaries conducted by political parties for the nomination of candidates for the 2023 general election.

He said some of the cases had gone to the Federal High Court, some were before the Court of Appeal, and others were before the Supreme Court. Following the Conclusion of the 2023 general elections, the independent National Electoral commission INEC will be sued in hundreds of cases involving the conduct of the election.
