Vigilante Nabs Suspected Cable Vandal In Iwofe, Handed Over To Police

Members of vigilance group early hours of Friday 26th May,2023 arrested a suspected vandal who gave his name as Godiya Yakubu while trying to cut street light cable at Iwofe axis, Porthacourt.

Richman Jogwe, Chief Security Officer, in charge of Calabar quarters in Iwofe, Porthacourt in an interview with our reporter said

“early hours of this morning, we arrested Godiya Yakubu, from Benue state. He and two others went to cut the cables connected to the Government street lights at Iwofe road. The other two ran away .

“We have handed him(Godiya Yakubu) over to Rumupakani(Ada George) Police Division”.

The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police command, SP Grace Iringe Koko was yet to respond to text messages sent to her mobile phone neither did she pick calls put across to her.

Recall that two weeks ago, Borokiri Police Division arrested three young men, Belema Aggo, Michael Edet and George Itarikabo in the act of vandalizing street lights provided for the community by NDDC.

The suspects and exhibits, which include eight solar panels, eight heavy duty batteries and two street lights, recovered were taken into Police custody, while the spokesperson of the command SP Koko said investigation is ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang, as well as receivers of previously stolen items.
