Tragedy struck in Isseke, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, as a family of four, including three women and an elderly man, was gruesomely murdered by suspected criminal elements in the late hours of Wednesday, May 22, 2025
The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement released on Friday by its spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.
According to preliminary investigations, the victims were attacked without provocation during ongoing joint security operations involving the Police, military, and other security agencies, aimed at flushing out criminal elements from the area.
The victims were later identified as Ichie Kennedy Igboanugo of Ekwuru Isseke, popularly known as Ichie Akuruoulo 1 of Isseke, and his family members.
“The bodies of the victims have been recovered and deposited at the morgue while investigations continue,” the statement said.
The Command expressed deep condolences to the family and friends of the victims, assuring the public that it is following up on credible leads to apprehend those behind the heinous act.
“Operatives are currently working on some clues to arrest the perpetrators of this heinous crime. The Joint Security Team has also reinforced the area for any untoward situation,” SP Ikenga added.
The police reiterated their commitment to restoring peace and security across the state, assuring that further developments on the case will be communicated in due course.
