Gunmen suspected to be cultists invaded a housing estate in Ahoada yesterday night (5th November 2022) in search of rival cult members of a rival cult group, we learnt.
We gathered that a shoot-out ensued between the invaders suspected to be members of Greenland cult group and their rivals, Iceland cult group which resulted to the death of about eight persons and a woman sustaining gunshots injuries with corpses of deceased littered around the estate as at Sunday morning. The incident we gathered occurred in Abuja housing estate, Ahoada main town, Ahoada East Local Government area
A resident of the community informed our reporter that residents scampered for safety and many others remained in doors for fear of being caught by stray bullet.
Our source disclosed that there was no security presence for over two hours the shooting lasted. The source revealed that some residents around the area the clash took place have deserted the place on Sunday morning.
Our correspondent reports that Iceland and Greenland cult groups have been involved in supremacy and territorial control battle in the past months with over twelve persons reported dead.
Community sources informed us that the Police personnel from Ahoada Divisional Police headquarters in Ahoada town, Ahoada East Local Government area has visited the scene on Sunday morning.
The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police command SP Grace Iringe Koko, in short press release said ”MEMBERS OF TWO RIVAL CULTS IN AHAODA RVS ICELANDERS AND GREENLANDERS CLASHED TODAY 6/11/22 AT ABOUT 0730HRS IN WHAT APPEARS TO BE A FIGHT FOR SUPREMACY RESULTANTLY FIVE PERSONS ARE REPORTED KILLED.
NAMES OF THE DECEASED PERSONS INCLUDE CHUKWUJEKU KINGSLEY ‘M’ 36YRS CHIBUIKE THANK GOD ‘M’ 23YRS
THREE OTHER CORPSES ARE YET TO BE IDENTIFIED MEANWHILE TACTICAL PATROL TEAMS HAVE BEEN MOBILISED TO THE AREA TO RESTORE NORMALCY AND INVESTIGATION INTO THE INCIDENT IS IN PROGRESS
