Former Lawmaker Berates Police, Anambra Govt, Over Inaction on Decomposing Bodies At 2nd Niger Bridge

Anambra State has been thrown into shock following the discovery of decomposing bodies around the 2nd Niger Bridge, a situation that has drawn sharp criticism from former federal lawmaker, Hon. Chuma Nzeribe.

In a strongly worded statement, Nzeribe decried the lack of prompt intervention by the Anambra State Government (ANSG) and security agencies, insisting that the area has become a crime scene requiring urgent attention.

  • “I understand that many more corpses are being discovered around the 2nd Niger Bridge location where Hon. Member Mr. Azuka Justice’s decomposing body was found,” Nzeribe revealed, expressing concern over the authorities’ failure to act swiftly.

The former lawmaker faulted the absence of a coordinated response from medical pathologists and morticians to identify and retrieve the bodies. He noted that despite driving past the area, no visible efforts had been made to secure or clean up the crime scene.

“In sane societies, even corpses are well preserved and respected. But not here,” he lamented

Nzeribe further called out the Nigeria Police Force and the Anambra Commissioner of Police, stating that the discovery site should be treated as a crime field, with adequate security measures to gather evidence and prevent further criminal activities.

“It is disgusting to see that ANSG’s medical team and police continue to fail our society even after the discovery of these dumping sites,” he stated, urging authorities to move in and “cleanse the area of more decomposing bodies.”

While commending Governor Chukwuma Soludo for setting up a new security structure, Nzeribe stressed that the system must be optimized to earn public confidence.

The disturbing reports from the 2nd Niger Bridge area have heightened concerns about security in Anambra State, with many calling for a more proactive approach in tackling crime and ensuring the dignity of the deceased.
