Reports Say 12 passengers travelling from Calabar to Oron have been abducted by kidnappers along the waterways in Cross River State.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident during a telephone conversation with our correspondent on Friday. She said the victims were seized while traveling by boat from Calabar, Cross River State, to Oron in Akwa Ibom State.
According to the information available to newsmen, the travellers had boarded the Heavenly Grace boat in Calabar over the weekend, heading for Akwa Ibom. However, their journey was violently interrupted when armed men intercepted their boat, forced the crew to halt, and ordered all passengers onto the kidnappers’ vessel before speeding away to an unknown destination.
The police said investigations are ongoing, and efforts are underway to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
