Gunmen suspected to be cultists have attacked a drinking bar in Omoku, headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, killing one person and leaving the Omoku Youth President missing.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at a bar along Ogolo Street, off Palace Road, where the assailants reportedly stormed the area and opened fire.
A security analyst prevy to the information wrote that the ‘gunmen suspected to be cultists this evening stormed a drinking bar at Ogolo street of Palace road in Omoku,ONELGA, Rivers shot one person dead who was later identified as Chigozie.’ it that also learnt that the gunmen reportedly came for the Youth President of Omoku, Ifeanyi Azuazua aka Snoop.The Youth President is feared to have been kidnapped by the gunmen as he is now missing after the attack”
The victim, later identified as Chigozie Oluwu, died at the scene. He was said to be a civilian security aide to the Omoku Youth President, Ifeanyi Azuazua, popularly known as Snoop.
Eyewitnesses say the gunmen were targeting the Youth President and allegedly abducted him after shooting his security aide. His whereabouts remain unknown as at the time of this report.
Security operatives were later seen retrieving the corpse of the deceased from the scene.
Residents fear the incident could trigger reprisals and counter-reprisals in the area, prompting calls for increased security presence to curb rising threats in the city.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
