Namibia Gets First Female President In Concluded Elections

The Namibian nation has voted for peace and stability,” the president-elect said in an address to the nation following the announcement of the election results.

Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah of the ruling SWAPO party has been elected president of Namibia with 57.31% of the vote, the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) reported.

Out of a total of 21 political parties that contested the parliamentary elections, the SWAPO party won 51 seats out of 96 elected on party lists in the National Assembly, the ECN noted in a report.

The presidential and National Assembly (the lower chamber of Namibia’s parliament) elections were held in Namibia on November 27.
