Police in Enugu State say they have arrested four men in two separate operations, recovering vandalised bridge components and suspected oil and gas pipes
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the first operation occurred on February 6, 2026, around 6:45 p.m., when operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Squad intercepted a white MAN Diesel 40-foot trailer along the Sagem/Amaechi–Idodo axis of the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway.
The trailer was carrying iron bridge parts reported to have been vandalised at Eziama Bridge in Amechi-Idodo, Nkanu East Local Government Area. Three men, Agbo Okwudili (45), Emmanuel Onyemachi (18), and Evans Ovie Monday (29) were arrested at the scene.
Later that night, around 11:56 p.m., the SWAT team conducted a second operation along Owoh/Ubahu Road in the same local government area. A 50-year-old man, Orjiakor Hyacinth, was arrested while assembling suspected vandalised carbon steel oil and gas pipes. Several pipe pieces and a gas cylinder were recovered.
The police said investigations are ongoing to apprehend other suspects at large and that the arrested individuals would face prosecution once investigations are concluded.
Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the operatives for their swift action and reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
He warned vandals that the police would pursue all perpetrators to the full extent of the law.
